Oh I have bought "dark" clear bandaids. Not a good look for an Irish girl. I misread the box.

But seriously those are three of some of the must fugly shoes ever, not to mention that they would help you wear a SUMMER DRESS in January. Ya know for that trip to St. Barts we all go on around the holidays. No wonder these idiots have been harassing me to pat up on a subscription - all $9 I owe!

I would almost think the shoes would look better on someone darker. Clothing that looks like your skin=creepy.

This reminds me of the time when my mom took me to get my first pair of pointe shoes, and I asked the lady if I could get them in brown (my flesh color). She gave me a puzzled look. My mother explained to me that I'd have to dye them (along with my tights) like the other girls at my all-Black dance school did. The lady took it upon herself to remark how "horrible" it was to dye pointe shoes, and that the "right" color was pink or flesh. "For you," my mother said thru clenched teeth, as she scooped up her purse, grabbed my hand, and headed for the door.

Then when I was 10 I saw the Dance Theatre of Harlem and my whole world changed. LOVE.

Okay everyone, please please please stop using the "f" word to describe that crayon. I know that's what it was called, I had them too. However I had to peel that part of the wrapping off that particular crayon because THAT WORD MAKES MY SKIN CRAWL. Kthx. As for Lucky, I think they named it Lucky because if you can afford the stuff they advertise, you're pretty lucky. Pleh. Also I can't think of the last time I saw a moddle of color in their pages. So eff them and their ugly shoes. I'm glad I'm unemployed if for the sole reason I can no longer buy stupid, waste-of-paper magazines like this one anymore.

I had a pair kinda like the ones on the left once, not quite as many straps and they laced in front instead of the zipper. Plus they were about 2 shades darker. I didn't like them until I put them on then they were shockingly cute.

Also the bandaid thing has always bothered me too. I go out of my way to buy goofy neon ones in protest.

2. lots of fashion editors promote "nude" shoes i actually like them

3. as a brown person i think the contrast of a light shoe against our skin looks great

If I saw that color, I would call it cream. Or ivory, depending on the paleness. I actually read the headline as "Nude Shots, But For Whom?" and I thought "oh great, who's gotten naked now but won't show their face? // don't tell me that you have to be a size 2 and perfectly tan to take naked shots for your SO, stfu."

I think the words "Nude" or "Flesh" should just be taken out of our collective vocabulary when describing the color of one's skin. It's just to limiting. Even for the women it's supposed to be referencing.

I don't have one pukey-beige-colored white friend.

To me it seems like they just re-labeled something that already existed: beige shoes. Perhaps the same could be done with other colors of shoes which match other skin tones.

I'm not sure if they MEANT to be racist (in fact, I doubt it and would rather peg it as "clueless"). It's just some editors *brilliant* idea about trying to create a new trend.

I buy "nude" color bras (aka beige) to go under my white shirts since its close to my own skin color. I bought a beautiful chocolate brown bra because I loved the color. Brown is a slightly odd color in terms of undergarments and thats when it clicked in my head- my beautiful chocolate brown bra would actually qualify as nude for women of darker skin tones. I felt bad for being stuck in the preconceived idea of nude = beige

@Lirael: i remember being a teen & talking to my friends about bras. most of my friends were white & they all talked about how black bras were sexy because you could see them through your shirts. i was like, "huh, that doesn't happen to me."

it still took me another year to realize that my bras situation was like opposite day compared to my friends' situations.

@silkyjumbo: I went to a Cosmetology school where our uniform was white scrubs and they REQURED us to wear either white or nude underwear "so it wouldn't show" Of course, the owner and administrators were white and didn't understand why this would be a problem.

The English language is an amagamation of our past but it is also constantly changing- nude may have been significant before as the white skinned status quo, but now is simply a color- every single person has a different skin tone so should we erase the word because it can't fit every single one of us? I actually think nude (the color) looks great against darker skin.

@boop: NO! Nude is not a color it is first and foremost a state of undress. If you are nude you are naked. If nudity has a color it is dependent on the color of the person who is nude. Black is black no matter the skin color of the person wearing it, nude is not.
