See Ariana Grande Perform 'Bang Bang' at the CMAs With Little Big Town

Yes, this actually happened.

For those of you who are not obsessed with Kacey Musgraves’ giant hair or bands with two Southern states in their name, you may have missed the news that Ariana Grande was performing at the Country Music Awards with Little Big Town. Why anyone on Earth would chose “Bang Bang” as a song to perform with a band who once wrote a song called “Pontoon” is still a mystery. Who knows! But yes, it definitely happened.

Everyone in Little Big Town was wearing glow-in-the-dark costumes, and they were backed up by glow-in-the-dark drummers. (A tribute to the Drumline 2, the greatest movie sequel of all time, perhaps?) They performed “Day Drinking” which is a great song and also pretty much my life anthem. (They love songs with cheeky drinking metaphors—see “Sober.”) Grande makes her entrance at about 1:55 (for those who can’t sit through less than two minutes of a country song), also wearing a glow-in-the-dark outfit. (Where they afraid this performance would blow a fuse and plunge everyone into darkness or something?) She sang “Bang Bang” accompanied by Little Big Town for her performance. This is a song she did with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj originally, FYI.

Yes, OK, it was all VERY FUCKING WEIRD. I say that as a fan of Little Big Town and someone who likes Grande. But still. It was…different. Pretty sure Loretta Lynn’s face says it all. Sure, Grande sounded incredible and Little Big Town is a great band with killer harmonies. Strawberry ice cream tastes great and garlic toast is fantastic but I’m not sure those things go together either. According to Jezebel News Editor Erin Gloria Ryan, this moment was “the weirdest thing that has ever happened and I’m very upset.” Seriously, her world is turned upside down right now.

Also, I’m sorry to disappoint you but no, tragically, Minaj did not make a surprise appearance at the end.
