NYPD Officer Reprimands Woman For Biking While Sexy

Latest

Jasmijn Rijcken, general manager of a Dutch bicycle company, says she was cycling in Manhattan last month when she was pulled over by a police officer for wearing a short skirt. “He said it’s very disturbing, and it’s distracting the cars and it’s dangerous,” Rijcken said. “I thought he was joking around but he got angry and asked me for ID … I didn’t even think for one second that my outfit could be harmful or disturbing.” Rijcken wasn’t given a ticket, and didn’t get the officer’s name.

You might think the NYPD would be a bit apologetic, considering the extremely bad press it’s gotten recently, but you’d be wrong. Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne insinuated Rijcken might be making the whole thing up, saying: “Whether this story bears even a modest semblance of what actually occurred is impossible to establish without being provided the purported officer’s name and getting his side of the story.”
