Mindy Kaling Has a New Book Coming Our Way

Latest

Mindy Kaling, star of page and screen, is coming out with a follow up to her collection of essays “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and Other Concerns).” The new book, currently being written, will be called “Why Not Me?” and will cover everything that’s happened since her first book’s release in 2011 — which, in Mindy Kaling’s case, is quite a lot.

“The show; my mother passed away; so many of my friends have gotten married. I’m a godmother now, and a homeowner. There’s so much that has happened in that period of time that I wanted to write another book,” Kaling told the LA Times‘ Yvonne Villarreal. “…I can only fit so much into the show and have all this extra stuff and I love writing in that format. It’s very different from writing dialog.”

Kaling also said that the book will address the more public issues that have surrounded her in the past year, including her Elle cover and the discussion about race on her show The Mindy Project.

“I can actually finally say, in the most eloquent way, what my feelings were about it,” she tells Villarreal.

On the title, she says that “Why Not Me?” has “kind of been my subconscious motto my whole life.”

Between this, Amy Poehler’s new book and Megan Amram’s upcoming science guide (for ladies), your 2014-2015 reading list is looking great.
