Katy Perry Records Same Song as Sara Bareilles; Internet Laughs Ass Off

The Internet is abuzz with pop diva scandal! Katy Perry’s new song Roar sounds an awful lot like Sara Bareilles’ Brave. Bareilles’ song was released fully three months ago, so time is on her side. Further damning Perry is the fact that she tweeted about her love for Bareilles’ tune a full three months before her own very similar song debuted.

They’re awfully similar — but are they more similar than any two random pop songs? OK, yes, probably so, but maybe not so much so that it’s a case of copycat. I think it’s just that all pop music all sounds basically the same right now. Which isn’t to say I wasn’t tapping my toes to both songs, but it’s really just another version of the repetitive pop anthem of choice.
