Comic legend Joan Rivers has passed away at New York's Mt. Sinai Hospital, one week after suffering from a heart attack during a procedure on her throat. She was 81 years old.
The announcement comes just hours after news broke that Rivers had left intensive care. She'd been unconscious since suffering from cardiac arrest on the operating table. The clinic where she was undergoing endoscopic surgery is currently under investigation for possible wrongdoing.
The family has released the following statement regarding Rivers' passing:

Rivers' career spanned decades and was still going strong in the years leading up to her death. Her humor and work ethic were documented beautifully in the must-watch 2010 documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work.
RIP, Joan. May your heaven be a red carpet populated by only the terribly dressed.
