Here Is the Trailer For the Sixth and Final Season of Downton Abbey

Latest

Compliments of PBS, we can now watch the trailer for the sixth and final season of Downton Abbey. But, to be honest, it’s a bit of a drag, and a familiar one at that.

In the space of one minute, you’ll witness Mary make a bitchy remark about Edith, Mr. Carson defend turn of the century traditions, and Mrs. Patmore be as delightfully sassy as ever. We also catch a glimpse of Mr. Bates glaring at a young man who dares to speak to Anna. Quelle surprise. (Though, I’m always here for Mrs. Patmore.)

Edith, it seems, has returned to London, where she tells her aunt, “I’d like a life.” You go, Edith—never forget that you have fans.

Tom Branson is missing from the trailer, so perhaps he sticks to his guns and does indeed head stateside. This is disappointing because it means we can no longer look at him.

It’s somewhat of a relief that season six has officially been designated the last one, because—love Downton though I do—this show has been lurching along for a couple of seasons now. Still, the trailer gives very little hint as to the various plot trajectories, so perhaps we’ll be surprised yet.

But most importantly, Lady Violet makes an appearance, and she is, as always, on top of her snark game. Bless you, Maggie Smith; may you always deign to walk among us mortals.

The final season will premiere on January 3, 2016 on PBS.
