David Bowie's Old Producer Insinuated Adele's Voice Isn't 100% Natural Woman

Latest

Tony Visconti is a music producer who worked with David Bowie throughout his career, including on his final album Blackstar. He certainly knows a lot about music and thus feels qualified to tell you who is for real and what is so, so fake.

Visconti is trying to drum up publicity for his new show Guitar Star, which is looking for more “old fashioned, raw ability” musicians, according to The Daily Star, which gave Visconti a platform to trash Adele. He says of the incredible pop vocalist:

“You turn the radio on and it’s fluff, you are listening to 90% computerised voices. We know Adele has a great voice but it’s even questionable if that is actually her voice or how much has been manipulated. We don’t know.
“There’s a sound to pop now that is so perfect it’s boring, because everything is fixed.”
“I’m looking for virtuosos like Hendrix, Cobain and Bowie.
“There’s no fluffy back story, there’s no: ‘I lost my pet dog in 97 and that made me want to play’ nonsense.”

He doesn’t like Adele’s perfect, maybe manipulated voice, and he definitely doesn’t like all her chart-topping hits inspired by the trials and tribulations of love or a dead dog or whatever. Visconti wants a hardbitten, acoustic cowboy who is raw as hell, but manly. A man. Man make music with hands, woman make fluff with voice.
