Darren Sharper Doesn't Rape, He Just Has Non-Consensual Sex

Guys, we have a “new” word for rape thanks to former NFL player Darren Sharper — non-consensual sex. Sounds so much nicer, doesn’t it? Really rolls off the tongue.

A New Orleans police report says that Sharper, who is charged with drugging and raping two women in Louisiana, told a witness that he and buddy Erik Nunez had “non-consensual” sex with two women last September. Non-consensual is rape, obviously, and Sharper’s wordplay here is like me ordering “potatoes which have been fried” instead of french fries. But the not-so-subtle nuance has already been used in defense of Nunez who was charged with two counts of aggravated rape and booked on Friday morning in Louisiana. As Nunez attorney’s astutely notes, “The word ‘rape’ did not occur.” Ah, yes, a terribly clever argument.

And I didn’t actually want french fries with that. Here’s a choice bit from the New Orleans police report obtained by USA Today:

Both New Orleans victims said they awoke from the stupor to find Sharper on top of them, “completely nude,” according to the police report, and both denied consenting to the sex. The report said an acquaintance later entered the apartment that night and found Sharper in his boxer shorts. The person then saw Nunez exiting Sharper’s room, also in just underwear.

“Through further investigation by the (detectives) it was learned that Nunez and Sharper admitted to other known witnesses that he and Sharper had … sex with victims #1 and #2 without their knowledge or permission,” the report states.

Now Sharper’s being held in a Los Angeles jail where he surrendered after a warrant was issued for his arrest in Louisiana. He’s charged with seven felony counts and is pleading not guilty. His attorneys have requested bail and posted $1 million “under the conditions that he not go to nightclubs and not be alone with any women he didn’t know prior to Oct. 30, the date of the first alleged incident in Los Angeles.”

How can police even enforce that bail stipulation without following him around 24-7? Note, this is a guy who is also under investigation for seven additional sexual abuse cases in Nevada, Florida and Arizona?

The suspended NFL Network commentator is slated to appear in court today, where a judge will rule on whether to release him on the aforementioned bail or hold him due to his Louisiana charges.
