Chicago GOP Candidate Thinks Gays And Abortions Cause Autism. OK.

Oh Jesus Christ. A Republican politician in Chicago is really having a field day with wild, totally unfounded claims about—well, pretty much everything.

Susanne Atanus, a Republican candidate in the 9th Congressional District, wants everyone to know that God is really, really pissed. And because of that, he’s doing things. Lots of bad things. Things you perhaps think are caused by normal scientific anomalies. Or just the fucking weather. Nope. That’s all shit God is doing because of gay people. And abortions. Let’s jump right into this one, shall we:

“I am a conservative Republican and I believe in God first,” Atanus
said. She said she believes God controls the weather and has put
tornadoes and diseases such as autism and dementia on earth as in
response to gay rights and legalized abortions.

“God is angry. We are provoking him with abortions and
same-sex marriage and civil unions,” she said. “Same-sex activity is
going to increase AIDS. If it’s in our military it will weaken our
military. We need to respect God.”

Following the controversy her words sparked (that is putting it mildly), Atanus was asked to resign by the GOP. But she was all “wait, what, me, huh????”

“I’m not withdrawing from the race,” Susanne Atanus told the Herald. “I don’t know why they are not standing behind me. They should talk to me personally. I will not back out of the race.”

The best part about this (OK, there is not just one best part.) is that while Atanus believes that God controls the weather, according to her candidate profile she thinks “It is important to reduce the amount of chemicals
in the air.” Because God needs our help? He has allergies? I just don’t even know how all this works anymore, man.

Sane Republicans might be out of luck in this round of elections though. Her primary opponent, David Earl Williams III, had a domestic violence order filed against him by his girlfriend. So maybe just sit this one out, guys.
