The Los Angeles County coroner’s office said that Carrie Fisher died from sleep apnea and a combination of other factors, though it was unable to identify one specific reason for the 60-year-old icon’s death last December.

From the AP:

Among the factors that contributed to Ms. Fisher’s death was a buildup of fatty tissue in the walls of her arteries, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said in a news release late Friday. The release states that the actor showed signs of having taken multiple drugs, but investigators could not determine whether they contributed to her death in December.

The examination was performed three days after Fisher died, and though there were signs of “multiple drug intake,” it’s unclear what role, if any, those substances played in her death.

Fisher’s daugher, Billie Lourd, said that her mother “battled drug addiction and mental illness her entire life,” and that “she ultimately died of it.” From CNN:

“She was purposefully open in all of her work about the social stigmas surrounding these diseases,” Lourd said in a statement.
“I know my Mom, she’d want her death to encourage people to be open about their struggles. Seek help, fight for government funding for mental health programs. Shame and those social stigmas are the enemies of progress to solutions and ultimately a cure. Love you Momby,” she added.

More details have emerged on last weekend’s arrest of Nick Gordon, who was dating Bobbi Kristina Brown at the time of her death (and, as of last September, ruled legally responsible for it.)

Now Gordon has also been accused of beating up his current girlfriend, Laura Leal, who told authorities that Gordon held her against her will and punched her in the face and back of the head.

Leal told the Daily Mail that her relationship with Gordon was eerily similar to the ultimately lethal one he shared with Brown:

“I’ve been reading the reports about Bobbi Kristina and I’m physically shaking,” she said. “I read about her being isolated, her family not knowing where she was, the manipulation, the bullying — it’s the exact same thing. That could have been me. Only the Grace of God saved me.”

A Georgia Deputy Assistant District Attorney, Seleta Griffin, spoke to Leal on Thursday and said the conversation was productive:

“The interview was very fruitful and we’ll continue to assess that incident in conjunction with the evidence that we have in this case here in Atlanta,” Griffin told Fox 5 Atlanta. “It is our goal to reach the truth in the matter, and we believe that the interview today has moved us closer to that goal. I can tell you that [the victim] had a lot to say.”
