Bryce Dallas Howard Spends Jurassic World Running in Heels. As One Does

Hello, ladies! Don’t you just hate it when you’re minding your own business, creating genetically modified dinosaurs for your bosses at Dino Entertainment HQ, and one of your mad science projects breaks out of containment, and suddenly you find yourself running frantically through the Costa Rican jungle in your high heels?

Well, Bryce Dallas Howard can relate. As she informed the Western Daily Press, her character wears her heels essentially the entire movie.

But just a glimpse at the actress’ feet, which are nestled in a homely but bog-standard pair of white hotel slippers today, suggests that maybe she won’t be keeping Claire’s stilettos – which the character insists on wearing as she darts away from the dinosaurs.
“Claire goes out into the jungle and her white clothes get muddy and ripped up and she gets bruised and sweaty – but girlfriend does not take off her heels!” says Bryce with a loud laugh, joking that she’s going to add “running in the jungle in heels” to her CV.

She told the London Evening Standard that, you know, you do what you gotta do. (Why you gotta do what you gotta do is another question.)

Howard, the daughter of director Ron Howard and star of films including The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, said they realised early on her character “has got to be in heels” despite the action sequences.
“In my day to day life, I’m more of a flats person,” she added. “It was tricky but I kind of got the hang of it near the end. I realised what I had to do was run on tippy toes then I wouldn’t sink into the mud. It felt really good because I was never that girl before.”

The subject came up yet again when she talked to Variety, as well. Variety bills this as an “explanation” but frankly I’m just left with more questions:

“I think my dad is going to be more scared that I ran around the entire film in high heels than any dinosaur chasing after me,” she said. “At the beginning I was kind of against the idea of wearing them, but then one day while looking at the terrain prior to a shoot, I just looked at Colin and said, ‘I think I’ll keep the shoes on.’”

Anyway it’s a great reminder that flats are handy because you never know when you’re gonna need to run from a dinosaur in the middle of the workday.
