Angelina Jolie Gets Choked Up While Accepting Humanitarian Award

Saturday night, Angelina Jolie received an honorary Oscar — the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award — at the fifth annual Governors Awards. She spoke about how her mother (who died in 2007) inspired her to do work that has meaning, and Brad Pitt and Maddox (so grown up and in a tux!) gazed upon her adoringly from the audience.

Angelina didn’t cry — and told Maddox she wasn’t going to cry; “I won’t embarrass you” — but she did get very emotional as she acknowledged that if her mother were alive, she would be proud of her.

Oddly enough, despite what the tabloids would have you believe, there was no screaming, fighting or storming out. Weird.

“My love,” she said to Brad Pitt, “your support and your guidance make everything I do possible.” To Maddox she said, “you and your brothers and sisters are my happiness.”
