Alexander Skarsgard Attends Premiere as a Dynasty-Style Drag Queen

Latest

At Monday night’s Diary of a Teenage Girl premiere, star Alexander Skarsgard walked the carpet in full-on, gold-lamé, big-wigged drag. He was giving a little Krystal Carrington, a little Dynasty meets Hedwig, a little Farrah Fawcett’s been at Studio 54 too long and it’s only 3 AM.

The event was held in San Francisco, where Skarsgard feted the much-anticipated film with his costar Bel Powley (who plays the title character, Minnie) and director Marielle Heller. In it, Skarsgard plays the boyfriend of Minnie’s mother, who ends up having an affair with the teen girl herself. Early snapshots from the movie have Skarsgard looking classic ‘70s butch, so maybe he felt compelled to switch it up a little. (As the Daily Mail points out, there’s an actual drag queen in the film—Peaches Christ, aka Joshua Grannell—but she didn’t seem to make it to the step-and-repeat.)

Clearly, Powley and Heller are also decked out in a version of ‘70s drag—especially appreciate Heller’s Squeaky Fromme meets the waitress who’s encouraging you to put nutritional yeast on your popcorn realness. But it’s obviously Skarsgard who really goes for the gold. (AYO!) The wig could, of course, use some work—lord knows I love a queen with big hair but it looks like she forwent the spray and used Elmer’s to glue those giant bangs away from her eyes. But she’s gorgeous; the contouring is perfectly drag-and-Kardashian (and Powley), as are the eyelashes, but next time I’d love to see her become more adventurous with the lip. Maybe a deeper shade of red gloss? Just a suggestion. (And by that, I mean, let’s hope there’s a next time!)

What do we think her drag name is? I’m guessing: Glimmera, Bjäby Björn, Holmetta Stock or, maybe, Eric Northman.
