Laughably Idiotic 'Sorry, Feminists!' Retort Prompts Awesome Twitter Hashtag, So It's All Good

Latest

Sometimes Twitter brings out the humble-bragging worst in everyone, but other times it makes my day. This morning falls into the latter category, thanks to #sorryfeminists.

It all started when Deborah Needleman, who recently became the new editor of T: The New York Times Style Magazine, tweeted, “The sexy (sorry, feminists), smart, sassy Katie Roiphe live on stage @nypl on Wednesday night.”

Well, shucks. This whole time I thought Katie Roiphe was the worst because she doesn’t think feminists should be funny and believes Fifty Shades of Grey‘s success means we’re all secretly submissive 50s housewives. But, when I think about it, I guess she’s not bad looking, which means my anti-Roiphe argument is totally meaningless! FUCK.

Thankfully, dozens of funny, feminist women (and men) launched a #sorryfeminists Twitter hashtag to make fun of Needleman, Roiphe, and the concept that one can’t be a sexy feminist. Or a fun feminist. Or an [insert generally positive and/or stereotypically feminine adjective] here.

Check it out and contribute on Twitter or Tumblr (it was only a matter of time before #sorryfeminists got GIF-ified) or down below.
