Let it be known that hero du jour Ryan Gosling is officially on notice. He's just been upstaged in the superhero department in a major way: Last night, Newark's awesome Mayor Cory Booker ran into a burning house and saved the life of a woman trapped inside! MEGASWOON. But wait until you hear the details. It's like something out of a blockbuster.

It began when a member of the security detail posted at Booker's house saw the fire developing at a nearby home and ran into the building. He alerted people on the first floor to leave, and he next went up to the second floor, where he rescued an elderly man who was trying to put out the fire. Then Booker, who'd just gotten home from doing an interview, arrived on the scene. He raced straight up the second floor of the house, yelling out for the woman they knew was trapped up there. She shouted from the back bedroom, but his security detail held Booker back because of the danger. And then this happened:

[T]he mayor then yelled out to his guards to release him. "She is going to die, she's going to die," he said, and crossed the smoke and flames before grabbing the woman. Along with the security detail, Booker carried the woman in his arms through the spreading fire and smoke out of the building.

Do you hear that sound? It's the sound of smoke alarms going off all over the world because our collective loins are on fire. Seriously, this guy is too much. Not only is he sexy, he's super smart, he's level-headed, he's a famously great leader, and he's buddies with President Obama. Oh, aaaand, he runs into burning buildings to save people. Feel free to have a little fainting spell because Booker can revive you no problem using his patented CPR (Cory Provides Rescue) system.

After he emerged from the blaze that transformed him from Mayor to Supermayor, Booker had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and second-degree burns on his hands. Ouch. He somehow still tweeted, "We got the woman out of the house. We are both off to the hospital. I will b ok." The woman, for the record, has burns on her back and neck, but she's listed as stable—though she's probably having wild heart palpitations as she replays her dramatic rescue at the hands of the people's newest hero.
