Worth It: Coffee Brewed One Delicious Cup At A Time

Much unlike many a magazine editor who recommends you buy all sorts of crap that they most likely got for free, your Jezebel staff doesn’t get jack shit (other than books, unsolicited). And that’s how it should be. But on our own time, in our personal lives, we still buy stuff. So this is Worth It, our daily recommendation of random things that we’ve actually spent our own money on. These are the things we buy regularly or really like, things we’d actually tell our friends about. And now we’re telling you.

I’m a bit of a coffee fiend. I’m one of those people who “needs a cup” in the morning, drinks a few cups to help get me through the work day, and frankly I enjoy a cup at night if I’m feeling too sleepy to go out and be social. So if you wanted to suggest that this Keurig machine is just a shiny enabler, go right ahead. Because this baby gives me coffee, within seconds, anytime I want it. It’s there for me when I need it the most.

Why do I love this machine so much? It’s simple: a piping-hot cup of coffee within seconds, anytime you want it. It’s pretty great to be able to pop a K-Cup — nifty, pre-portioned little cups that are filled with what will soon be your single serving of java — into the machine and have a hot cup of coffee in less than a minute. I fancy myself a pretty busy lady [Ed: We are BLOGGERS, after all], so it’s nice to not have to wait to brew a whole pot of coffee or to spend time waiting in line at the nearest coffee shop.

That said, the good life makes it just that much more difficult to go back to the way things were with my old coffee machine. For example, my Keurig machine has become that much more crucial as of late, seeing as we’ve been out of K-Cups for a week now and have started to use the old machine to save money. It’s a sad day when the simple act of putting a filter and coffee grinds into a machine, filling it with water, and waiting for it to brew is too cumbersome, but there you have it. But if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t feel badly spoiling yourself (or, ahem, treating yo self), then I suggest you just go ahead and do that.

Okay, so one very important caveat here: the Keurig is expensive. The machines vary in size (from a personal mini-brewer to something that could keep an entire office jacked) and therefore, price, and the K-Cups are also pretty damn pricey. But when you think about it, the cups wind up costing about $1 each, which is similar to a cup of burnt coffee at your local gas station, but is chump change next to Starbucks. (But I will note that I’ve found Amazon.com sells some of the cheapest K-Cups around.)
