Woman Walks Off Pier While Checking Facebook

Latest

Police had to rescue a woman who accidentally walked off a pier in the Australian city of Melbourne this week because she was too distracted checking her Facebook page to look where she was going.

According to a report from the Victoria Police, the tourist was walking along St. Kilda pier, “engrossed in social media,” when she walked off the pier and fell into the icy waters of Port Phillip Bay. From the Victoria Police:

Uniform members from St Kilda were able to point out the position of the distressed woman, floundering in the water, to water police units who rescued her about 20 metres from the pier.

THANK GOODNESS she was totally fine. Oh, and the police say don’t worry about the cell phone either; it didn’t get lost or anything:

There will be no need for a lost property report as the woman kept hold of her mobile phone throughout the entire ordeal.

Kept hold of the phone. The entire time. Firmly in grasp. Never let go. Even while possibly drowning. In frigid waters.

All of this begs the question—who started the stupid Facebook argument on her page about the real correct answer to the giraffe riddle that almost got this poor woman killed? WHOSE LIES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?
