Woman Attacks "Evil" Gauguin Painting In National Gallery

Latest

On Friday a woman attacked Paul Gauguin’s “Two Tahitian Women” at the National Gallery. While banging on the painting’s clear plastic covering, she screamed “This is evil!” “She was really pounding it with her fists,” says a witness. “It was like this weird surreal scene that one doesn’t expect at the National Gallery.” (At MoMA, sure, but not the National Gallery!) It seems the painting wasn’t damaged but it’s being inspected more closely today. The attacker was tackled by a man visiting the gallery and has been charged with destruction of property and attempted theft.
