We'll Be Chatting With Dolphins In No Time

Latest

This summer researchers will try out a system that could let them “co-create” a language that both humans and dolphins understand. As part of a project called Cetacean Hearing and Telemetry, or CHAT, divers will use underwater computers to record noises made by dolphins and respond with a few different sounds. The ultimate goal is to uncover the “fundamental units” of dolphin communication. We expect that some of the first sentences they piece together will be “get that thing out of my face,” and “leave me alone.”
