Tracy Morgan Smooths Over Homophobia Controversy By Joking About "Retarded Kids"

Latest

This weekend Tracy Morgan performed standup again for the first time since the scandal over his homophobic remarks earlier this month in Nashville. During two performances at Caroline’s Comedy Club, Tracy apologized several more times, joking:

“My father was the lead singer in the Village People … I would sing the ‘Y.M.C.A.’ the loudest. I was sitting right there when he wrote the song, my daddy. The Indian was my godfather.”

In a serious moment he added, “I don’t have that in me. I believe gay, straight, anybody, everybody’s supposed to be happy in this world, man.” Then he went back to the “comedy.” The New York Times reports:

Resuming his routine, Mr. Morgan warned his audience, “Don’t ever mess with women who have retarded kids.” As groans and cries of “Uh-oh” were heard, he continued, “Them young retarded males is strong. They’re strong like chimps.”
Finally, he concluded with a bit about his alleged teenage romance with a girl he described as “a cripple” with a prosthetic arm, a mechanical larynx and a portable dialysis machine.

It’s probably a good thing that he’s developed such a talent for apologizing.
