Today Is a Good Day Because Nancy Meyers' New Movie Has a Trailer

Latest

Nancy Meyers’ The Intern has a trailer, you can watch it in the YouTube video player above, and I’m so happy to be writing this sentence. The movie, written and directed by Meyers, stars Anne Hathaway as Jules Ostin, the founder of a successful startup in Brooklyn, and Robert de Niro as Ben Whittaker, the retiree who’s just joined their senior intern program.

He’s old school, she’s new school, and I’ve watched it five times. The Intern looks charming, silly, and like its sets were ripped out of Architectural Digest – exactly what we want from a Nancy Meyers joint.

The film was originally supposed to star Tina Fey and Michael Caine, but moved to another studio where the lead roles transitioned to Reese Witherspoon and Robert De Niro. After Reese passed due to “scheduling conflcts,” they brought Anne Hathaway in. That early production shuffle might explain the atypical six-year gap between it and It’s Complicated, Meyers’ last film. Just look at her filmography as a director — not more than three years between each movie.

You may have made me/the world wait too long, Nancy, but I forgive you.
