Tina Turner Plans to Give Up Her U.S. Citizenship and I'll Use The Power of Her Songs to Try and Stop her

Dear Tina Turner,

You’re making a huge mistake. I was horrified to read today that you are renouncing your U.S. citizenship and becoming a Swiss citizen. I know you’ve been living in the Zurich suburb of Kuesnacht since the mid-1990s. I know you said, “I am very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here. I could not imagine a better place to live.” And I’m sure Chateau Algonquin, the lake house you live in with your longtime partner, German music manager Erwin Bach is lovely. I’d love to visit. Any time. Really, ANY TIME. But I think you’re being rash. And I think you should remain an American citizen. Please allow me to make my case through the power of your own songs.

First of all, I want you to know how much I love you. I read your autobiography I, Tina and loved it. I felt like you were really speaking to me. I think “(You’re Simply) The Best.”

Giving up your U.S. passport would be really brave. It’s not an easy thing to do. But you know what, Tina? “We Don’t Need Another Hero.”

And I’m not the only one upset. So is the mayor of your home town Nutbush. How could you turn your back on “Nutbush City Limits?”

I’m afraid you’re acting irrationally, moved by passion and not reason. You’re acting like a fool, “A Fool in Love.”

You’re making a decision based on love. And at the end of the day, “What’s Love Got To Do With It”?

Before you do anything you regret, why don’t you come back to America and “(Why Don’t You) Stay a While?”

Is there anything I can do to convince you to remain a U.S. citizen? I’ll do anything. “(I’ll Be Your) Private Dancer.”

You know what? Forget it. I can see you’re not budging. Even after that private dancer offer, which usually seals the deal for me, if I’m being honest. So let’s just stop talking about it because “I Don’t Wanna Fight.”

You know what? Now that we’ve had this talk, I’m starting to feel a little bit better. “(I think) It’s Gonna Work Out Fine/”

Because, I’ll always love you, Tina. But I’ll get over you. “When The Heartache Is Over (I know I won’t be missing you).”
