The Riverfront Times has a devastating story today about how the Jefferson City, Missouri police department botched a young woman’s rape case. The woman, Brittany Burke, was written about in the St. Louis Post Dispatch because she previously had a relationship with Missouri House Speaker John Diehl. The Dispatch story strongly implied she was lying about having been raped. Riverfront Times editor Sarah Fenske previously took the Dispatch to task for their coverage, and today’s piece shows just how badly they—and the police—failed.
