The people behind Love Your Body Day are up in arms about sexist advertising. They're encouraging supporters to either sign a petition against the offending ads to send to selected advertising directors or to nominate an ad for general scorn on their website. So far the Dolce and Gabbana gang rape ad has been pilloried, along with offerings from Dior, Makers Mark, Mitchum and Misty Cigarettes (though it's probably too much to ask a company called "Misty" to be enlightened). Sad Part: My boyfriend uses Mitchum and whenever I smell it I think of cuddling next to him while we read in bed...And, though he is sweet enough to delete the unflattering naked pictures of me, he find Mitchum's advertising juvenile and generally ineffective. It's just that he's been using it since he was in junior high and is a creature of habit.
I don't know why they didn't include Sun Silk in this list—I find the blond vs. brunets campaign (to the total exclusion of red heads or...you know, asian, black, hispanic, anybody who isn't white women) completely trite and disgusting. Also, the normalcy of sexual passivity and/or rape in fashion ads are awful...I don't want to look like a rape victim when I buy a $300 tank top, I want to look like the fashion victim I am.
