It's time to check your privacy settings, because everyone and their mother really is on Facebook. A new study found that 51% of Americans over the age of 12 are now on Facebook. That's up from just 8% in 2008. Even those younger than 12 may be on — for now. The site's chief privacy adviser recently said 20,000 people are kicked off every day for being underage.
I gave up Facebook for Lent. I plan to go back to it, but really wanted to take some time to think about the role I want it to play in my life and be more purposeful in my use of it. I think it's important to make a conscious decision about that, about the amount of time you want it to consume and about the types of messages and information you want to put out there.
