The Great Wedding Caper

Illustration for article titled The Great Wedding Caper

Bucharest, Romania, July 31: Romanian brides pose for pictures at the Triumph Arch. The arch, a replica of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the French capital, is a rendezvous place for brides after midnight on the wedding night during the stealing of the bride ritual. The ritual, of ancient origin, is performed by wedding guests who take the bride away from the party and then demand a ransom from the groom, usually money or alcoholic drinks, to return her.(AP Photo/Vadim Ghirda)

Are all these brides from different weddings? Because I think that would be cool - to end up someplace getting "kidnapped" and photographed with other ladies in lovely dresses on their big day too. I suppose some people might feel upstaged, but I think it's neat.
