Tallahassee Teenager Arrested for Throwing Chocolate Milk

One day before a gunman murdered two and injured six others in a midtown yoga studio, Tallahassee police arrested a 19-year-old woman for pouring chocolate milk on a volunteer at a Republican party table.

Shelby Shoup, a Florida State University student, stopped at the table to debate volunteers. Predictably, an argument ensued, and in a video posted to Twitter by Hunter Pollack, Shoup can be seen splashing chocolate milk onto someone off camera.

“Nazis are shooting my people,” Shoup says, to which a male voice responds “You’re throwing milk at people.”

It’s worth noting that Pollack lost his sister, Meadow Pollack, in the Parkland shootings at Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018. His Wikipedia page describes him as a “school safety activist” who has met with Donald Trump and Mike Pence to “increase safety measures in schools rather than focus on gun control.”

Shoup turned herself in to authorities and spent the night in jail. She was released Friday, the same day Scott Paul Beierle, a self-proclaimed misogynist and far-right extremist shot and killed two women at a yoga studio. Beierle also had a history of sexually assaulting women on FSU’s campus, but Tallahassee prosecutors declined to press charges.

Meanwhile, Shoup is due back in court November 28 for a hearing. Great job keeping dangerous, sugary milk off the streets and Republican sweaters, Tally PD!

In the video, Shoup herself perfectly describes this argument between college kids that, inexplicably, came to involve police:“It’s chocolate milk, dude. Fuck off.”
