Swiss Won't Extradite Polanski; GLAAD Wants Mayer To Apologize For Slur
Latest- Swiss officials announced today that Roman Polanski won’t be extradited to the United States until L.A. courts make a “decision on the question of an in absentia trial.” For now, he’ll remain under house arrest at his Swiss chalet.
- Last month a State Superior Court judge ruled that Polanski must return to the U.S. for sentencing, but earlier a California appeals court suggested he didn’t need to be present. “When the question is still open, why should he be extradited?” said the Swiss official. “As long as the question is still open, our decision depends on that.” [LAT, NYT]
- Pierce Brosnan, who stars in Roman Polanski‘s new film The Ghost Writer, says when he heard about his arrest, “I was shocked. I was very disappointed and saddened by his arrest. I wondered why now, after such a long time? … I was very upset for his family, for his children.” [Reuters]
- John Mayer already apologized for using the “N-word” in his Playboy interview, and now GLADD wants him to apologize for using the “F-Word”. The group said in a statement, “Just as Mayer indicated in his apology, that he meant no offense in his use of the racist slur, we hope the intent behind his use of the F-word was not malicious. As a public figure with millions of fans, Mayer should be more cognizant of the impact his casual use of both slurs can have.” Mayer used the word when describing why he kissed Perez Hilton in 2007 saying, “I can outgay this guy right now.
