Dutch Supermodel Doutzen Kroes — who is a Victoria’s Secret Angel, has a contract with L’Oréal and has been in the top five on the Forbes list of top-earning models — is pregnant, and it’s going to be a girl. A girl she doesn’t necessarily want following in her mother’s footsteps.
Kroes — who already has a son with husband Sunnery James — tells Page Six that she wants her daughter to use her intelligence:
“Instead of saying, ‘You’re so beautiful,’ I’ll say, ‘You’re smart,’ so she’ll have different aspirations in life than beauty and modeling. Though I love my job, I’m not changing the world. I’d love for her to study and to have different aspirations. We need to teach girls they can become presidents, and it’s not about beauty all the time.”
Kroes is absolutely right, but might have an uphill battle ahead of her: Studies show that plenty of young women would rather be called “sexy” than “smart” and would rather have larger breasts than a high IQ. And even though she will be complimenting her daughter’s brains, the world might end up sending a different message; Kroes’s family is relentlessly gorgeous. But kudos to her for getting it, it’s going to be exciting when her daughter is prime minister of The Netherlands.
