Stop Everything: Cary Elwes Is Writing a Princess Bride Memoir

CelebritiesDirt Bag

Nothing against Cary Elwes (who I’m sure is a fine and diligent writer), but if anyone is going to write a memoir about the wacky hijinks on the set of The Princess Bride, it seems like it should be Wallace Shawn.

Elwes said he was inspired to write a Princess Bride memoir after a cast reunion at the 2012 New York Film Festival, where the movie celebrated its 25th anniversary. After some brainstorming and a creeping realization that nothing in his career would ever match the magic of The Princess Bride, Elwes scored a book deal with Simon & Schuster. As You Wish: Tales from the Princess Bride will be released in the fall of 2014, and will include interviews with castmembers, a forward by director Rob Reiner, and a little insert explaining that, if you were excited to purchase your copy, you’re old and contemporary pop culture no longer considers you part of its target demographic.
