Start Your New Year With Vivienne Westwood Tutus and Julie Andrews

Latest

Most of us will be waking up with a hangover on New Year’s Day. But here’s one way to class up time spent prostrate on the couch: A concert heavy on the Strauss, hosted by your TV nana Julie Andrews and complete with ballet interlude featuring costumes designed by Vivienne Westwood.

It’s an annual holiday performance organized Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring a mid-program appearance by the Vienna State Ballet. Women’s Wear Daily reports that Westwood adapted several designs for the dances at the Palais Liechtenstein, including a silk taffeta dress from her spring 2014 Gold Label collection and “tartan mini kilts and bustiers,” for dancers doing the polka. Periodically, living legend Julie Andrews will pop up and say hi from various Viennese landmarks, like the Klosterneuburg Abbey. Feel free to also imagine her gently laying a washcloth on your aching head.
