Maybe you didn't flock to the theater this weekend to see Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone and Jean Claude Van Damme make jokes about how they're getting too old to make jokes about getting too old to be in action movies — it's okay, Hollywood forgives you. Not only does Hollywood forgive you, it will also offer a female-driven alternative to the curdled flesh jugs of testosterone currently making spectacles of themselves in theaters across the country. According to Variety Adi Shankar (who financed The Grey) will produce an "Expendables-inspired" movie featuring "several prominent actresses affiliated with the action genre."

Variety's Jeff Sneider cites the success of this year's female-driven action movies like Snow White and the Huntsman and The Hunger Games as part of the motivation behind a lady Expendables, though it's not yet clear who's going to star in this latest venture. Linda Hamilton and Sigourney Weaver seem like no-brainers, and as cheesy a concept as Expendables is, it'd be pretty cool to see older female action stars capitalize on audience nostalgia the same way their male counterparts seem poised to do. Then we could have an Expendables gender war, which would end with four minutes of a guinea pig eating what would have been the last reel of the movie.
