Last night in New York, HBO threw a premiere for The Normal Heart, which airs later this month. The movie is based on a play based on the life of Larry Kramer and the rise of the HIV/AIDS crisis in New York. Big stars were in attendance.
First things first: Matt Bomer has been doing a retro chiseled Cary Grant stone fox thing on the cover of Out and IRL, and it is good. Pattern mixing and Brylcreem. Hot.
Skinny gray suits and skinny ties for Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons, Gambit/Tim Riggins/Taylor Kitsch and Parsons' boyfriend Todd Spiewak.
The Normal Heart star Mark Ruffalo looks handsome in an ever-so-slightly rumpled tux. Dylan McDermott (with girlfriend Shasi Wells) did the open-shirt thing.
The Normal Heart director Ryan Murphy (also of Glee and American Horror Story fame) opted for a fanciful take on formality. Jonathan Groff, (Glee, Looking, Frozen) Nolan Gerard Funk (The Canyons, Glee) and Glee's Darren Criss were a bit more traditional.
J. Crew's Jenna Lyons (with girlfriend Courtney Crangi) elevates camo with statement heels. Rob Thomas (you remember Matchbox Twenty, right?) and Marisol Thomas went with easy elegance. Andy Cohen looks like he has a yacht to catch. In a good way.
Digging the swingy patterned dress on American Horror Story's Sarah Paulson and digging just gazing upon Pedro Pascal aka Oberyn "Erotisexual" Martell from Game of Thrones.
Breezy skirts for Marisa Tomei and Boardwalk Empire's Margot Bingham.
Gah, that dress! So pretty, so springy! Exclamation point! FYI that's Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.
More prints: Anna Chlumsky in a tux made out of Miami bathroom wallpaper and Megan Hilty in a dress made out of a glaucoma test.
Sleek and chic: Jennifer Westfeldt and Bethenney Frankel.
Black accented with metallic: Liv Tyler, Kathy Najimy.
Fab in basic black: Orange Is The New Black's Samira Wiley (with Looking's Frankie J. Alvarez); former New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
Men's-style double-breasted blazers on Julia Roberts and Jane Lynch. One of them looks like she got cold at the dance and put on her date's jacket.
Über power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt (who produced the movie) both win in the category of Red Carpet Fail™. (Prize: One Bianca Del Rio sneer, each.) His navy jacket/black tee combo is awful; her makeup is jacked and the hair has been better. I still love them and I feel strongly that somehow they will recover from these terrible gaffes.
Finally: Oh snap! Judith Light looks so amazing, we all need to reevaluate who's really the boss.
