Look at Disney, creeping beyond the classics theyâve already adapted! Oh but donât worry, theyâll be revising the original tale so itâs closer to the animated movie everyone knows. Synergy, babe.
Thatâs according to the Hollywood Reporter, who says that Disneyâs forthcoming movie about Rose Red, Snow Whiteâs sister, was originally conceived as more of a separate, stand-alone project, but itâs being retooled so itâs âcloser to the animated classic, giving Rose a âcompanion pieceâ feel,â THR explains:
The story is a revisionist take that transposes Rose Red into the Snow White tale, making her a key player in the later part of the classic story. When Snow White takes a bite from the iconic poison apple and falls into her Sleeping Death, her estranged sister, Rose Red, must undertake a dangerous quest with Grumpy and the other dwarves to find a way to break the curse and bring Snow White back to life.
THR notes of producer Tripp Vinson:
The project is the third fairy tale Vinson has set up at Disney in the last eight months. He has Genies, a prequel to Aladdin, and Prince Charming, a project based upon the iconic character seen in many a fairy tale, already in development at the studio.
You can check out one of the original English-language Brothers Grimm texts online, but itâs not even really related to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. (They get mixed up with a dwarf and a prince enchanted into a bear. Snow White gets to marry the bear prince; Rose Red gets his brother. Poor Rose Red, always playing second fiddle.) Presumably theyâre using nothing but the name and the concept of Snow Whiteâs sister.

Honestly, starting to get a little nostalgic for the vine-covered country cottage versions of all these stories.
