Snapchat No Longer Allowed on Private School's Prim and Proper Wi-Fi

Eton College, that august British institution whose alums include princes, prime ministers and Bertie Wooster, has decided it’s time to lay down the law. Snapchat is henceforth strictly forbidden on the boarding school’s Wi-Fi network.

There’ll be no nudes floating around to interfere with bright political careers, no siree, Bob. Not on Eton’s watch.

The Telegraph reports:

“It is blocked from the Eton wireless internet system,” Tony Little, the headmaster, tells Mandrake. “Boys can still use it via the 3G phone network, but we hope that blocking it on our network will at least make them think twice. This is part of our continuing effort to educate boys in the sensible use of technology.”

Unspoken: “What do you think we’re running here—some sort of American university with American fraternities? Good God, man.”

This is pretty much a meaningless rule, given the existence of 3G. With 1,300 pupils (aged 13 to 18) to police, it’d probably be easier to ban smartphones altogether. But if it’s any comfort, they’re probably mostly swapping hideously unflattering of themselves while bored at the library.
