Sesame Street Has Nearly One Billion Views on YouTube

Latest

Getting into numbers that even the Count Von Count would struggle to keep up with, the Sesame Street YouTube channel is close to surpassing one billion views, a milestone that, once crossed, will place it in an elite league with Psy (“Gangnam Style” is the most trafficked YouTube video of all time), Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and a sneezing panda.

More and more, Sesame Street has been branching out using different types of media such as YouTube and web apps. Terry Fitzpatrick, the executive vice president of content and distribution for Sesame Workshop, tells the New York Times:

“We have this theory that if we get content on multiple platforms and devices, it gives kids and families a chance to reinforce and experience the curriculum multiple times. It blows me away to think about how popular and strong a platform (YouTube) has become for us.”

Yesterday, Sesame Street posted the above video to encourage viewers to help the show get passed the 20 million views needed to push them into the Big Billion club. As an incentive, they’re promising to release a top secret video once they reach their goal. Because Sesame Street is good for our kids and makes the world a better place, I say we all lend a hand.
