It’s February 13, also known as Galentine’s Day—a fictional holiday created by fictional TV character Leslie Knope to celebrate her fictional female friendships. Great idea!
I present my personal favorite fictional female friendship: Xena the Warrior Princess and Gabrielle, a scrappy sidekick who eventually proved herself a hero in her own right. And, you guys, they’re real friends in real life. Be still my heart! Xena and Gabrielle helped me figure out that friendship between women could include loyalty, wild exploits, and romantic ambiguity. Who helped you all figure out what it means to be a good friend?
