Sarah Palin Cheers Donald Trump's Birtherism

Latest

This is what it’s come to: The potential GOP presidential candidates are so unserious, so comfortable with fearmongering and misinformation, that Sarah Palin now has to struggle to keep up.

Palin hasn’t said whether she’s running. So now that there is another questionably-qualified television personality throwing his hat in the ring and tacking right-er and crazier than she, what can Palin do but applaud?

Asked on Fox News last night what she thought of Donald Trump hiring researchers to uncover the president’s elaborate plot to be born in Kenya, she said,

“More power to him!…I appreciate that Donald wants to spend his resources in getting to the bottom of something that so interests him and many Americans,” she said. “He’s not just throwing stones from the sidelines, he’s digging in (to it), he’s paying for researchers,” she added.

Palin then added that she thinks that Obama was probably born in Hawaii. This has been her tactic for about a year and change: Say just enough to dignify the birthers and throw them a bone, but stop short of saying anything too obviously false.

In any case, we know how much Palin is on the side of facts and research. We’re sure that once the “researchers” find nothing, everyone will take it back. That, or they’ll say that all that birther nonsense “was not intended to be a factual statement.”
