While it's ridiculous that this is even a topic in our national discourse, a lot of people have been throwing around arguments against women in the military these days. First there was Rick Santorum saying that male soldiers will have a harder time doing their jobs because they won't be able to surpress their instincts to protect their female counterparts and now veteran journalist Liz Trotta is saying that by entering the predominantly male armed forces, women should expect to get sexually assaulted. Luckily, Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee is here to apologize on behalf of women for putting men in this terrible position, both on the battle field and in society at large. "You don't bring the fruit, if you don't want it to get picked."
The funny thing about all of this is that my active duty Army husband didn't believe me when I told him about the new rule. "That's not different than what we've been doing for years" he said. I had to get the article out so he could see that I wasn't making things up and he said that it was a minimal change.
