Rumor: Australia Bans Porn With Small-Breasted Women

There’s a rumor going around that the Australian government’s Classification Board has banned adult publications and films which depict small-breasted women.

According to reports, the ruling:

“is in response to a campaign led by Kids Free 2 B Kids and promoted by Barnaby Joyce and Guy Barnett in Senate Estimates late last year… Mainstream companies such as Larry Flint’s Hustler produce some of the publications that have been banned. These companies are regulated by the FBI to ensure that only adult performers are featured in their publications.”

Australia’s rules about films and video games are especially um, rigid. They have a rating system similar to the United States: G, PG, M for mature, R (restricted to 18 and over) and X. RC means Refused Classification; and it’s illegal to offer these items for sale (although in some parts of the country, it’s legal to own RC material, unless it is, in itself illegal — like child porn).

Though it was first reported that porn featuring women with small breasts had been banned, in an update, A spokesperson for the Australian Classification Board clarified that:

publications which contain offensive depictions or descriptions of persons who are or appear to be persons under the age of 18

The intention is to keep child pornography illegal. The problem is in how the decisions are made — using what kinds of information. Australian Sex Party spokesperson Fiona Patten claims: “We are starting to see depictions of women in their late 20s being banned because they have an A cup size… It may be an unintended consequence of the Senator’s actions but they are largely responsible for the sharp increase in breast size in Australian adult magazines of late.” In addition, Patten tells the blog Somebody Think Of The Children that “she attended a ACB training session late last year where they showed examples of publications that had been Refused Classification due to the size of the woman’s breasts.” (Emphasis ours.)

Basically, in an effort to prohibit child porn, the ACB has — or can be — declaring the images of small-breasted women illegal.

The situation raises a few questions: Is it fair for a Board to judge the age of a woman by her breast size? If a man likes a small-breasted woman, is he a pedophile? If porn focuses on large-breasted women, doesn’t that send the message that only big breasts are sexy? If she lied about her age, could a well-developed 14-year-old end up slipping by the Board?

The rumor that the Board is judging breast size has Erotica blogger Ms. Naughty upset:

“Shall we put such hysteria aside and look at what this ruling is saying to Australian women? Basically, it’s classing a certain normal female body type as obscene. It’s declaring all flat chests to be automatically juvenile, something that should not be viewed by anyone because of a fear that it will stir up ‘base instincts’ in certain people. Can the Classification Board be any more insulting or sexist?”
