Pussy Riot Member Maria Alyokhina Freed From Prison

Latest

Reuters is reporting that Pussy Riot member Maria Alyokhina has been released from prison as a result of an amnesty bill:

“They’ve just released her,” Pyotr Verzilov, the husband of fellow band mate Nadia Tolokonnikova, who is also due to be released under the amnesty, told Reuters.

According to the BBC, Alyokhina is on her way to Moscow:

Another lawyer for Ms Alyokhina, Pavel Chikov, said: “According to the Russian legislation the colony has to buy her a ticket to the home city which is Moscow. “So she is currently on the railway station in Nizhny Novgorod awaiting her train to Moscow.”

Alyokhina had been serving a two-year sentence for a protest against President Vladimir Putin that took place in a church.

Update: Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has also been released, thanks to the same amnesty bill.
