President Obama Knows What You're Watching, You Lazy Couch Potato

While addressing a large group of American students via the National Urban League Conference in New Orleans this week, President Barack Obama attempted to ignite their competitive fire in order to better the country: "You're competing against young people in Beijing and Bangalore. You know, they're not hanging out, they're not getting over, they're not playing video games, they're not watching Real Housewives. I'm just saying it's a two way street. You got to earn success."


Oh, great. If we let the president come for our guilty pleasures, what will he take next?

Yes we have to earn our success... but my real question is why we feel like we have to adopt other countries' work culture as our own to feel competitive in the global market?

Many people are run into the ground working 70 hour weeks trying to make head-way. Why is this acceptable when it clearly isn't helping us re-define America's place in the global work force?

Perhaps I'm taking this too seriously... I'll just go back to re-watching old episodes of 30 Rock on Netflix and identifying with Liz Lemon. She understands....
