I also want to point out that I have read there is a twinge of "Movie of the Week" vibe in this movie. I haven't seen it so I can't comment if that is true or not. But if you compare independent critics views Precious to say, Ballast, which garnered 4 Gotham awards you can see that I don't think the lack of nominations was meant as a total diss. I think there is a legitimate argument that can be made for why Precious was passed over.
