Pour One Out: Kathie Lee Gifford Is Leaving the Today Show

Latest

Kathie Lee Gifford announced that she’s saying goodbye to the Today Show. Bring out your shittiest white wine, here come the fucking tears!

“I’ve been here almost 11 years,” Lee, who has hosted the fourth hour of the Today Show with Hoda Kotb since 2008, said Tuesday morning. “Thought I would stay one year. Something happened along the way: Fell in love with a beautiful Egyptian goddess.”

Gifford said she will officially leave Kathie Lee & Hoda on the program’s 11th anniversary, which NBC News president Noah Oppenheim confirmed will be April 7, 2019.

“I love you Hoda Mama,” said Gifford. Gifford admitted that she’s “thrilled” about upcoming projects, but the separation is bittersweet: She’s heartbroken to leave her NBC fam behind.

“The minute you stepped into my life with both feet, everything changed,” said Kotb, Egyptian goddess, through tears.

Are you crying yet???

“Everything good that’s happened in my life has happened since you came,” Hoda added. “I met Joel because I had to give a speech. Why did I give a speech? Because I worked here, because I worked with you. I wouldn’t have been there that day. Haley came as a result of our union. Everything happened. I remember thinking, how does one person step in your life and change it like that?”

The mush fest continued.

“We’re going to be friends for the rest of our lives,” said Gifford. “And I’m grateful to God for you.”

Happy trails, Kathie Lee. We, and the wine industry, will never forget your impact on daytime.
