Confirmed manchild Pharrell and his N.E.R.D. production partners Chad Hugo and Shay Haley have contributed music to the soundtrack for 2015's SpongeBob SquarePants: Sponge Out of Water movie. Here's a preview of their work in the form of a song called "Squeeze Me."
Chipper and tropical, this is essentially N.E.R.D.'s take on the SpongeBob underwater theme song, with the same youthful spirit that Pharrell injected in the scores for Despicable Me. "I'm better than pillows/ What you don't believe me? Squeeze me," he sings.
Spin also notes that "it's N.E.R.D's first song since their 2010 album, Nothing." Hugo described the music from the soundtrack as "a psychedelic, otherworldly type of thing" and said: "If you want to draw a parallel, maybe think of what the Beatles did with Yellow Submarine." You'll recall that Pharrell had a SpongeBob-themed birthday party earlier this year (see photo above) because who doesn't love SpongeBob.
"Squeeze Me" officially releases on Jan. 5. Once annoying little children get ahold, we may never hear the end of it.
