Mattel's limited edition Karl Lagerfeld Barbie has already sold out.
Fashion's greatest cat lover recently received the universe's highest award for human achievement, aka having a Barbie doll made in your likeness. He was immortalized as a special Barbie doll styled in his signature look and sold on Net-a Porter, according to Women's Wear Daily:
Part of the Barbie Collector series, the doll is dressed according to the German couturier's custom: in a tailored black jacket, a white shirt with a high collar and skinny black jeans. Accessories are key, including a fat necktie, dark sunglasses and black ankle boots. Commented Kim Culmone, global vice president of Barbie product design: "It's not everyday that Barbie dresses like the world's most famous fashion designer."
Here's the final version of the doll, which almost nails the facial expression perfectly:
The Lagerfeld Barbie went on sale on Monday for $200 and sold out in a few hours, according to Fashionista. During that brief time, Lagerfeld Barbie started a feud with Lana Del Rey and mocked Barbie Princess Doll's look as "too expected" and "pedestrian."
While Net-a-Porter tragically has no more of the Lagerfeld-inspired Barbies left for sale, Fashionista found some available over at eBay, going for between $900-3500. Look on the bright side, though. If that's too rich for your blood you can still get your hands on this awesome Lagerfeld figurine for the bargain price of $190. Come on, who needs to eat this month!
