We've long been skeeved out by the Barilla pasta commercials, all of which feature a sexy Italian stalker who skulks around giving women significant looks and slipping them boxes of pasta while Andrea Bocelli croons in the background. In the latest ad, for Barilla Plus, he seems to have crossed the line from stalking into a highly suspect interest in children. The whole commercial kind of feels like the set-up for a TV movie about the dangers of lurking pedophiles. The "plot" centers around a young woman visiting her sister at an idyllic Tuscan villa. "Who's that?" she asks upon spying the Barilla stalker. "A neighbor. The kids adore him," is the blithe reply. Then he's at their dinner table! "You're such a good mom," says the younger sister.
