You just can't make this shit up. (Well, if we could make this shit up, maybe bloggers would still be getting book deals!) Anyway we have just learned that the photographer responsible for what may well turn out to be one of the most iconic images of 2007 (above).**UPDATE BELOW

Is the same man responsible for what was definitely the most iconic image of 1972:

For those interested in coincidences, the pictures were taken exactly 35 years apart.

**Update: We're being informed that top photo of Paris was taken not by Nick Ut but by Carl Larson of INF; Nick Ut of the Associated Press is responsible for the below:

I think people may be missing the significance of the Paris photo versus the Vietnam photo - what was considered suffering yesterday is barely recognizable to what the average American would call suffering today. We see photos of people suffering in Iraq and most of us barely bat an eyelash. But watching a spoiled heirress collapse in tears as her world crumbles in the back of a cop car has the entire country RIVETED.

The dichotomy of images that represent suffering 35 years ago versus suffering today is EXACTLY the reason these two photos being taken almost 35 years to the day apart is a profound commentary on the deterioration of our values. Kinda sucks - but damn I love both photos.
