Oscars Backstage: Bridges Bawls, Bigelow Inspires

Latest

Is GMA‘s Robin Roberts gunning for Barbara Walters’ job? Backstage at the Oscars, she asked Jeff Bridges, “What would you want to tell your dad about this guy?” Bridges stared at his Oscar, then broke down and cried.

Today Good Morning America also aired Roberts’ interviews with a few of the ladies who won, including Mo’Nique, Sandra Bullock, and Kathryn Bigelow. In the clip below, Mo’Nique says she wasn’t nervous before the show because, “We had already won back in Utah when an old little white woman told me, you changed me life.” (We prefer the version of this story in which Mo’Nique reveals, “I had an Asian brother come up to me after a screening in L.A.” and say, “I am Mary Jones.”)

Though Roberts (and everyone else) is framing Kathryn Bigelow’s Best Director win as a triumph for women, she says, “I hope it can be useful to other filmmakers be them men or women, that… don’t give up on their dream.”
